Ward in same level of Floyd Mayweather, Bernard Hopkins; Andre Ward vs Sergey Kovalev winner vs Adonis Stevenson

Ward in same level of Floyd Mayweather, Bernard Hopkins; Andre Ward vs Sergey Kovalev winner vs Adonis Stevenson

Footages of Andre Ward ‘s training somehow remind us of another American champion boxer, Floyd Mayweather. Seen at the same level rarefied confidence and razor sharp focus with only one thing in mind: Victory.

Like Floyd Mayweather, Andre Ward trains for every bout like he’s fighting the toughest challenger in the world. He now prepares for Sergey Kovalev the way he did for Alexander Brand, the same way Floyd Mayweather trained for Andre Berto as he did for Manny Pacquiao.
“I wouldn’t be able to get to this level and stay at this level if I checked in and checked out,” Ward told Daily News.

On Andre Ward vs Sergey Kovalev

“It’s the same dedication and it’s the same work. For me, it’s about trying to be the best in a sport where there’s little room for error. I understand that every time I step into the ring and (that) leads to me making sure I prepare accordingly.”
Like many boxing greats, Andre Ward (30-0) makes sure he’s mentally conditioned for the fight more than anything. We only see his drill on TV, but the real battle is in his head.
“I would say that’s a very accurate assessment,” Ward added.
“I know they want blood, they want me knocked down and staggered. I’ve studied this sport for many years and if you look at old footage of Roy Jones, Bernard Hopkins and old interviews and footage of Floyd Mayweather (Jr.), it’s the same kind of things that were said about them and those three guys are legends and hall of famers.”
Meanwhile, another light heavyweight champion awaits the winner of Andre Ward vs Sergey Kovalev – Adonis Stevenson.
As Andre Ward vs Sergey Kovalev fights for the Pound 4 Pound dominion, Adonis Stevenson wants to take all the titles, and believes he beats either Ward or Sergey Kovalev, according to a report by Boxing247.
“Well, you know Andre Ward is fighting Sergey Kovalev, and I would like to fight the winner and unify the title,” Adonis Stevenson said.
“I’m the lineal champion, so everything has to go through me. I need all of the titles, so it’s time to make that fight happen. I think Ward vs Stevenson is a 50-50 fight, so I’m not sure who wins. But the fans want to know who the best light-heavyweight champion is, and whether it’s Andre Ward or Sergey Kovalev (30-0), I know I will win that fight.”
Adonis Stevenson (28-1) has held the WBC and lineal light heavyweight titles since 2013.

Floyd Mayweather says fight with UFC's Conor McGregor will not happen

Retired boxing world champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. says his much anticipated fight with UFC star Conor McGregor is off.
Retired boxer Floyd Mayweather has ruled out a bout with mixed martial arts (MMA) fighter Conor McGregor.
The American five-weight world champion, 39, said earlier this year he would want $100m (£69.3m) to fight the 28-year-old Irish UFC star.
"I tried to make the fight happen but we weren't able to, so we must move on." Mayweather told FightHype.com.
"I feel honoured to be the biggest name in MMA and in boxing, and I don't even compete no more."
McGregor had previously said he was interested the contest, as long as Mayweather - who retired from boxing in September 2015 - could come up with the "appropriate funds" for the crossover fight.
"He is running around the Showtime offices, begging those executives to come up with the $100m cash he needs to fight me," the Irishman said last month. "As soon as he gets my money, we can fight."
McGregor is under contract with the UFC, and any potential fight against Mayweather would have had to involve a co-promotion or the UFC's blessing.

Floyd Mayweather 'should fight winner of Thurman-Porter'

Shawn Porter has called on Floyd Mayweather to fight the winner of his weekend world title contest with Keith Thurman.
Thurman defends his WBA welterweight belt and his unbeaten record against his friend Porter in Brooklyn on Saturday night, live on Sky Sports.
And the challenger wants self-proclaimed 'Best Ever' Mayweather to prove his greatness by coming out of retirement to take on the winner rather than pursuing a cross-code meeting with UFC star Conor McGregor.
"I feel like if Floyd comes back he should fight the winner of this match-up," said Porter, whose sole defeat in 28 bouts to date was inflicted on points by Britain's Kell Brook.
"I'm excited to get in there and not get it, to control the ring and the fight and to take home the WBA title."
Thurman is calling Saturday's showdown "the best fight of the best" and is determined to keep alive his dream of unifying the 147lbs-division.
"This is what the boxing fans want to see," he said. "I truly believe you are looking at two of the best welterweights in the world. It's obvious we are the two most exciting and devastating fighters in the division.
"It's always been my dream to be the undisputed champion of the world. I'm looking forward to a great performance.
"There is a burning desire within myself to have a knockout victory. It's hard to make world-class fighters quit.
Tale of the Tape
"There are real stakes on the line this Saturday. Our careers are on the line, my title is on the line, my undefeated record is on the line.
"I do believe that with each and every fight you step up, you step up and step up. We're trying to satisfy the fans, and we're trying to push ourselves and see where we fit in - how great we really are."
Watch Anthony Joshua vs Dominic Breazeale live on Sky Sports Box Office from The O2, June 25. Book the event via your Sky remote or online here.

Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs. Conor McGregor: What Excites Fight Fans About This Boxing And MMA Clash?

Conor McGregor shocked the world with his sudden retirement tweet last month, in which the UFC star said he is simply sick and tired of fulfilling the promotional requirements of the company.

There have been speculations that McGregor could make the jump to WWE from mixed martial arts, similar to the paths taken by Ken Shamrock and Brock Lesnar. However, in addition to returning to UFC, another path for McGregor is to take his talents into the boxing ring and take on retired unbeaten boxing champion Floyd Mayweather Jr.

The thought of a boxing match between McGregor and Mayweather has fascinated fans, similar to the talk regarding a possible bout between Mayweather and former UFC women's bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey. While the Mayweather-Rousey match probably had no chance of happening, is there a possibility of McGregor-Mayweather fight becoming a reality?

MMA Junkie columnist Ben Fowlkes compares the talk regarding a boxing match between McGregor and Mayweather to junk food, saying that while it is not good to digest, it is not bad in moderation. There will always be an appetite among fans for such a dream matchmaking, and as long as the appetite is there, entertainers such as McGregor and Mayweather will deliver it.

And deliver it, the two fighters have been doing. McGregor claims he is on equal footing with Mayweather in terms of drawing power, and if such a fight will happen, he will look to have an equal share of the match's revenue. Mayweather previously said he would be getting $100 million, while McGregor would get only $7 million.

An executive for Showtime, Stephen Espinoza, revealed that Mayweather has a mutual interest in getting in the ring with McGregor, as the boxer said that he would welcome a return to the sport with a nine-figure payday. McGregor's taunts might be helping fan the flames for a match between the two.

"I have the size, I have the reach, I have the height, I have the youth. He needs me. I don't need him. That's the truth of it. Who else can he fight?," McGregor said.

Will a McGregor-Mayweather match happen? Fans of combat sports are hoping it would, though it should be remembered it took years for a fight between Mayweather and Filipino boxer Manny Pacquiao to be arranged.

FLOYD MAYWEATHER CHAINING THE GAME ... Cops $250k Neck Bling

0415-mayweather-chain-tmz-01
Floyd Mayweather is still finding ways to show us he's rich as hell ... this time it's hooking up with one of NYC's best jewelers and copping a neck piece worth A QUARTER MILLION DOLLARS.

The money man stopped into the Mr. Flawless jewelry store in Manhattan on Thursday and went HAM ... copping a "double lion head cuban bust down no lock."

We don't really know what the hell that means ... but we do know the gold and diamond chain weighs a monstrous 1,200 grams and set Mr. Mayweather back an INSANE $250k.

Floyd's been on a spree recently ... earlier this week we saw him cop $500k for his girlfriend Bad Medina ... the 4th car he's bought her in two years.

What's a little giving if you can't TREAT YO' SELF.

Liddell compares Jones to Mayweather: He's a great fighter, I just don't like watching him

UFC Hall of Famer Chuck Liddell responds to the tweets Jon Jones posted last month, claiming that the pound-for-pound king is a points fighter.
Former light heavyweight champion and UFC legend Chuck Liddell said he believed he could still pose problems to Jon Jones if they ever faced off in the Octagon. Jones, who was stripped of the 205-pound title last year for a hit-and-run incident, was quick to respond to "The Iceman" on twitter but didn't bother tagging the Hall of Famer.
Liddell took the comments in his stride but wished the pound-for-pound #1 had responded to him directly on Twitter.
"The funny thing is he goes back at me, but if you're gonna go back at me, tag me," Liddell said in a recent interview at the EA Sports UFC 2 video-game launch party in Las Vegas (h/t Marc Raimondi of MMA Fighting). "Let me know you're going back at me, so I can respond. I just thought it was kind of weird."
The 46-year-old has been critical of Jones' fighting style in the past and says he isn't a fan of his somewhat conservative fighting style. Although most of Bones' victories have come via decision since winning the LHW title in 2011, the Jackson-Wink fighter is still lauded for his dynmatic strikes and devastating throws.
Continuing at the launch party, Liddell compared Jones to Floyd Mayweather Jr and said they have a similar fighting style.
"He's a great fighter," Liddell said. "It's like Mayweather. Mayweather is a phenomenal fighter, I don't like watching him. I don't want to watch a guy outpoint a guy just enough to win and cruise."
Although Chuck isn't a fan of Jones' style, he recognizes his championship-level talent and praises him for the success he's found in the UFC.
"If that's the way you fight and you're the best in the world, you should be champion. Whatever your style of fighting, if you're winning by the rules that are set by everybody, you should be champion. I'm not mad at him for fighting that way. I understand it. Honestly, I talked about Georges St-Pierre the same way. As a coach, as a manager, I get it. Great. I understand what he's doing. As a fan, not so much. I don't get it so much. That's not what I want to see. But to each his own."
Jon Jones is schedueled for a championship rematch with Daniel Cormier at the upcoming UFC 197 PPV on April 23rd at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.
